An Elegant Look for Your Area Carpet
A serged carpet border edge is a continued wrap of colored, cotton yarn that is sewn around the edge of the carpet to enhance your carpet’s appearance and prevent the edges from unraveling or becoming frayed. Serging is similar to a traditional whip stitch except that the yarn on the carpet’s edge is very close together and it’s done by machine. The width of the serging is just under ½” and the yarn color is typically chosen to match the carpet. Serging does not appear as part of the carpet construction, but provides an accent edge to the finished carpet or rug.
To prevent the “sprouting” of carpet yarns through the serged edge, we add the step of sewing on a color-matched carpet binding material prior to the sewing the finished, serged edge treatment.
D. A. Burns maintains an ample inventory of serging yarn colors to match your carpet or rug.
We Can Serge Irregular Shaped Carpets, Too
Not all finished area carpets are rectangular. Many irregular and curvilinear shaped carpets are also candidates for our accent edge serging. Carpet professionals designing carpet for yachts, aircraft and stair runners rely upon D. A. Burns for carpet serging for that finishing touch.
